“Why did I run? I ran because of you. Why did I win? I won because of you. Why have I been successful in office? It’s because of you. And why will I win again? Because of you! So we have to work together to fight for what’s needed in this community”

Miami-Dade, Fla. — This Saturday, August 26, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s campaign hosted its first Petition Day of Action, a grassroots event designed to rally supporters and collect signatures for the mayor’s reelection, co-hosted by The Miami Dade Democratic Party, SEIU Florida, Blue Wave Coalition, and Ruth’s List Florida.
In 2020, Mayor Levine Cava made history as the first ever county mayoral candidate to qualify for the ballot by petition – proving the power of her grassroots support – and this cycle, she’s going to do it again. Event details appear below.
During the Mayor’s tenure, she has made historic property tax cuts, protected 25,000 tenants from evictions, championed the transition of the County’s transportation bus fleet to electric, expanded public transportation options, and fostered small business growth through innovative initiatives like Strive305.
A well-respected leader who has garnered bipartisan support across the County, Mayor Levine Cava is Miami-Dade’s first woman mayor and first Jewish mayor.
Jessica Jean: “For those that I haven’t met yet, my name is Jessica Saint Jean. I am working on community outreach, volunteer management.Thank you! Thank you! Alright, yeah! So I’m working on volunteer management and our field program. I’m happy to be here today. Thank you all for being here. This is our first day of action for the cycle. So thank you for all of you who showed up today. Yes, yes, thank you! So we’re going to do. But first, I’m going to introduce Representative Ashley Gann, who’s going to speak to us for just a moment”.
Representative Asheley V Gantt: “(…) So the one lesson that I learned during this process is that the biggest block of voters are non voters. That’s right, right? People have become apathetic. So when we go out we have to remember. We have to make sure that they understand the importance of showing out and voting next year. And we have to make sure that not only the people we touch today, but the people in our lives every single day and peer pressure works. So don’t be above peer pressure, OK? Make sure that we tell these people you must vote. And not only that, you have to vote for the right people. Vote for Mayor Levine Cava!
Mayor Daniella Levine Cava: “Ready to win? You know, what are the issues? That we want to make sure that they know that somebody who really cares for them is on the ballot”.
“We want to be sure that people see that we’re going to them. That we’re not letting them stay home on the couch. That it’s not a right to register to vote and then not vote. You have to vote right! And like you’re saying, you have to vote for the right people. And that’s what you’re doing here today. You are the movement”.
“You are the ones that will get it done. I can’t do it alone. I have not gotten it done alone. So just to wrap it up, because I know you’re excited to go out there and get some petitions signed. And by the way, those petitions turn into votes later on”.
“So I want to be very, very clear. Why did I run? I ran because of you. Why did I win? I won because of you. Why have I been successful in office? It’s because of you. And why will I win again? Because of you! So we have to work together to fight for what’s needed in this community”.
